The Human Spirit
“This is true because, being made in God’s image, we are not human beings having an occasional spiritual experience; rather we are spiritual beings having a temporary human experience.” – Steven Sjogren (Excerpt from, “The Day I Died.”)
We sometimes forget that we are only part human, and our flesh is mortal. God is talked about as a triune being; therefore, if man is made in God’s image, we are also triune; yet we are one person. Man, is made up of three different parts – Spirit, Soul and Body. To live we have to take care of our physical man, our spiritual man, and our soul. Too often we live in our flesh alone, which is destructive, since the flesh is born into sin. The carnal mind is enmity toward God. (Romans 8:7) We must continually die to our flesh to be spirit led. (Romans 8:13)
People often get confused over the idea of God being one, yet having three parts. Three = One. At the risk of sounding like a theologian I will stop there; however, if you have never studied Monotheism it is such a great course. It really puts things into perspective, in regards to the Father, Son, and The Holy Spirit being ONE.
“So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them;male and female he created them. ” – Genesis 1:27
“I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (1 Thessalonians 5:23).
Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.” – Matthew 22:37
We have a Heart, a Soul and a Mind. (A Body, a Soul, and a Spirit.) This tells us that when we become separate from our bodies, it is not the end! Our body requires the spirit and soul to live; God is the spirit that breathes life into us. But when our bodies come to an end we do live on. Something to meditate on.
Today’s society focuses much on the outer being, and how we identify as Male or Female on the earth, as in that is, “all that we are.” We are much more than this. God is neither male nor female; however, He created us male and female with specific purposes in mind. His perfect design not to be tampered with. We are too focused on sexual orientation as a basis on, “who we are.” We were created to re-produce, male and female, to work together like a perfect puzzle. When a man and a woman come together, they are one flesh. (Matthew 19:5)
When we question “what” or “who” we are, we are of an egotistical deception that this humanly state is supreme, and all there is. We must be careful to take care of our spiritual man as much as our physical man, and that involves being in communion with God. We belong to God, our creator. (1 Corinthians 6:19)
God is spiritual; therefore, we are spiritual. He can appear in any form, unlike us. The book, “The Shack,” really puts a creative spin on this perception; an amazing book, but our God is so magnificent we can’t pin Him down to one form. He can appear however he needs to specific to each individual. He appeared in many different forms in the bible to get the attention of His people. He is so big, so mighty, and so mysteriously beautiful.
“If God were small enough to be understood, He would not be big enough to be worshipped.” – Evelyn Underhill
Life is about a journey. Find your God given purpose; and realize that God loves you as you are, and he makes no mistakes. He created us out of love, and for a purpose. He will complete what He started, but the evolution of our journey is from within. (Philippians 1:6)
Bruce Jenner has gone through many surgeries to change his outer appearance, yet that will not change who he is on the inside. He seemed to be confused in his interviews about, “what,” he ultimately wanted to become. Confusion is not of God, it is the enemies way of breaking us down and destroying us. We need to pray for people like Bruce Jenner, such a lovely soul; however, tormented into believing he needs to change his appearance, because God made a mistake? To change our outer appearance is to criticize the work of the creator. Our inner spirit is the most important thing we show to the world, let’s stop telling children they need to change their outside to reflect what they are really feeling on the inside, that is a dangerous thing, and it won’t stop the battle that goes on within.
Usually this kind of behavior is because a person feels like something is missing out of life, so they search to figure it out. Search to find themselves in the wrong places and through the wrong measures; however, it is only when you realize who you are in God, do you truly find contentment and peace. God is the only person that can fill the void within us and make us feel, “whole.” No amount of surgery can do that. I pray peace over those who are conflicted in who they are. God loves you just the way you are, you just need to see it, and love yourself too.
