"To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified." Isaiah 61:3

The Gift

The Gift

“You must each decide in your heart how much to give. And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.” – 2 Corinthians 9:7

I hear a lot during Christmas how people are dreading all the shopping they are going to have to do, and how broke they will be. Then you have people who starts months in advance, and careful plan and budget toward their gifts. I like to put a lot of thought into my gifts, and think about who I’m giving it to, and what message I want to convey. Sometimes I give in response to what the need is.

To give someone a gift, is to present them with, “something.” To show how much you value that person. When Jesus was born the wise-men, brought Him gifts. They brought him Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh, because in those times they were gifts fit for a King. They also stood around Him and worshiped Him. Our lives, and our worship is a gift to God, like a sweet smelling fragrance. (2 Corinthians 2:15)  When we worship God it brings God joy, but we also in return feel a great sense of joy and sometimes healing happens in those times.  When we give, we receive, it’s Gods perfect formula.

When you give something to someone, it should bring them joy, but it should also bring you great Joy. It is a blessing to be able to give, and we each have, “something,” to give whether it be a physical gift, spiritual gift, and even time is a gift. (Acts 20:35) We forget that when we are giving, we are acting as God’s hands and feet. We have made this season into a commercial explosion, so much so that we forget the true meaning of Christmas.

Jesus birth was a gift to ALL mankind. What the law couldn’t do, Grace did in abundance. The bible says the letter kills but the spirit gives life. (2 Corinthians 3:4-8) Therefore we know that His Grace is sufficient (2 Corinthians 12:9)…..His Grace is a gift to us.  So many people are lost and confused during this time, and it is a fact that there are more depressed and hurting people during this time of year than any other. Why is that? When God intended for us to have Joy?  Clearly the message hasn’t been sent.

“The Spirit of the LORD is upon me, for he has anointed me to bring Good News to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim that captives will be released, that the blind will see, that the oppressed will be set free.” – Luke 4:18

Christmas is about celebrating Jesus birthday, and enjoying the gifts He has given us. Peace, Hope, Joy, Love. (Romans 15:13, Isaiah 9:6)  All these things come through the Holy Spirit.

When we get wrapped up in the politics of Christmas shopping, it sometimes steals our peace and empties our pockets at the same time!  Financial depression is huge because we feel a huge weight on us to go over and above.  This is not what God intended, it’s supposed to be a cheerful time.  It also takes our focus off the fact that there is a hurting world out there.  People need to know Jesus, and the message of Hope He brings.  Jesus came that we might have a joyful life, not to steal from us.  We need to stop living in defeat when we are meant to be victorious in Him.

“The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.” John 10:10

The greatest gift of all is Jesus. There is no greater gift that you can give someone, then Hope, and that is what Jesus stands for. Hope for a better life and future, eternal life. (Jeremiah 29:11)

“Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.” Acts 3:6

Small acts of kindness multiplied can causes a great ripple effect on the world. Just as one small stone can eventually cause a wave. Jesus birth caused a multitude of events to happen, and because of those events He has given us a gift, that we can share with those around us, and the world. Merry Christmas!

“In the ocean of the universe, a single stone and ripple changes it forever. – WM Paul Young’s book, “Eve.”
