Life is like….
My momma always said, “Life was like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get.” – Forrest Gump
I think Forest really had something in, “that there,” statement. You really don’t know what life is going to throw at you, or hand you sometimes. But when it does, there is a place we can turn to, where there is always an answer – The Word of God.
In the word of God, you can open the book to any page, and find, “something,” you need. You may not know exactly what God is going to say; sometimes there will be conviction, sometimes revelation, or sometimes just a little bit of inspiration for your day.
I love lays potato chips – the plain kind. But, I can’t eat just one, I hunger for more. My addiction to potato chips can get outta hand at times. Before I know it I’ve ingested nearly a whole bag without thinking. It’s not really a healthy choice, I mean you digest potato chips (which are for the most part full of unhealthy fat) it will eventually seep into your blood stream, and will cause a myriad of issues. Most times it causes us to grow and gain a few.
If we become hungry for God, and for His word, like a bag of potato chips, most assuredly we will grow to be the best we can be in life. It will free you from life’s unhealthy choices, and fill you with life giving power.
“The bible is like a bag of chips for the hungry soul. And we know that man cannot live on bread alone.” – Me
“But Jesus told him, “No! The Scriptures say, ‘People do not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.'” – Matthew 4:4
I was going through something personal the last week and so instead of resorting to my bag of chips, I decided to ask God for a scripture to help me deal with my issue. He brought me to Ezekiel 10:2
“Then the LORD spoke to the man in linen clothing and said, “Go between the whirling wheels beneath the cherubim, and take a handful of burning coals and scatter them over the city.” He did this as I watched.” – Ezekiel 10:2
The wheels, or rather between the wheels are representative of Jesus, and the burning coals are representative of God’s presence. So in this I gained that I should stay in Jesus, and hold onto the presence of God. I believe that the coals of fire might also represent the word of God, because God is the Word. (John 1:1) So in saying that, If I grab a handful of the word, and spread it into the atmosphere (city), people might not only know the presence of God, but I can use it to battle anything that comes against me. The word of God is a strong sword to the one who wields it. When Jesus was tested in the wilderness, He simply used the word of God as His weapon. (Matthew 4:1-11)
“For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” – Hebrews 4:12
There are a lot of things in life I don’t and will never understand, it’s ever changing. But God never changes, nor does his word. His promises are yea and amen (2 Corinthians 1:20) His ways and his thoughts are higher than ours.
“For just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so my ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts.” – Isaiah 55:9
It takes courage to face your battles. Sometimes people view Christians as weak individuals who need something to believe in; however, I beg to differ. As a Christian it is the biggest sign of courage, when you can rest in Jesus while you are going through something, instead of running away from things, or becoming fearful, or acting out of Grace. (Zechariah 4:6) – Ernest Hemingway said, “Courage is grace under pressure.”
Sometimes we don’t know our own strength, or know the true presence of faith in our lives, until we are tested. (James 1:3)
“You cannot know the strength of your faith until it is tested.” – Life of Pi
Hunger can change everything you ever thought you knew about yourself. Good and bad. But if you stay focused on the one that gives you life, and stay hungry for the things of God, you can get through anything. When God seems indifferent to your struggles, He is there, you just need to take a step of faith, and trust in His Grace, no matter what life throws you.
“Life is like a camera. Just focus on what’s important, capture the good times, develop from the negatives, and if things don’t turn out – take another shot.” – Unknown
