Resolutions

“Peace of mind makes the body healthy.” – Proverbs 14:30

Every year we make resolutions to be healthier in all aspects of life, whether it is losing weight, exercising, eating healthier, and even creating healthy financial goals.  “Out with the old, and in with the new,” states the adage of old.   Due to lack of motivation the novelty usually wears off.  But often times we forget that health also involve taking care of our spirit man.   It is said that positive thinking often leads to positive outcomes; however, It’s hard in this day in age to find peace in our mind and hearts, because were so accustom to fast paced living, bad news, and hardly find a moment to wind down or clear our minds from our to do lists.  So how do we find peace of mind?  Here are a few tips I’ve come up with that may help.

Prayer – prayer is effective in clearing away those negative thoughts.  Find a nice quiet space and ask God to help you think on the lovely things.

“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.” –  Philippians 4:8.

Limit – what you feed your body and your mind.  When I watch certain shows like crime shows, or listen to angry music, it tends to have an affect on my mood, and my thoughts.  Sometimes it helps to turn off the things that clutter your mind and keep it active, and just take a nice quiet bath, read or do things that relax your mind, and it will help you sleep better at night.   Ask God to help take captive your thoughts.

“We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” –  2 Corinthians 10:5 

 Relax – in nature.  Take time to reflect on all that is around us.  It’s a great place to exercise, take in scenery, capture beautiful artwork in photos, and just realize the beauty of all God created.  We are visual creatures and nature is shown to help calm our spirits.

“On the glorious splendor of your majesty, and on your wondrous works, I will meditate.” – Psalm 145:5

 Smile – when you don’t feel like it.  Ever notice when someone smiles at you it completely changes your mood? Smiling has amazing health benefits.  It changes your mood, it’s contagious, and it relieves stress.  Smiling can actually boost your immune system, release endorphins, give you a natural facelift and lower your blood pressure. And there’s always something to be thankful for.

A merry heart does good, like medicine, But a broken spirit dries the bones.” – Proverbs 17:22
