Name Your Giant
“Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them.” – Mark 11:23
We all face things in life, problems that can be so hard to face that they often feel like mountains or giants. They can come in many different forms such as doubt and unbelief, financial issues, health issues, relationship issues, and sometimes a big one is lack of self confidence.
In the book of Samuel, David faced Goliath even though the odds didn’t look so great, given the size of the large philistine he was up against. Fear I’m sure took hold of his heart many times, as it would naturally do. Our bodies are designed to let us know when something is wrong, but sometimes the enemy tries to cause fear, when something great is about to happen. Fear is not of God.
“For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline.” – 2 Timothy 1:7
One thing that is helpful in conquering our giants is by telling them exactly what we plan to do. Tell that giant where to go! David showed his faith, by explaining exactly what He was about to do to the giant, before casting his stone. (1 Samuel 17:45-46) He also used the name of the Lord over his situation. I believe the victory happened long before the stone was placed in the sling. But it’s not enough to have faith, if you aren’t going to take action. Take a step of faith.
“Have faith, speak faith, and then walk in faith.” – Amanda
“You come against me with sword and spear and javelin, but I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. This day the Lord will deliver you into my hands, and I’ll strike you down and cut off your head. This very day I will give the carcasses of the Philistine army to the birds and the wild animals, and the whole world will know that there is a God in Israel.” – 1 Samuel 17:45-46
Often times we magnify our issues and make mountains out of mole hills. It just takes a little faith to move a mountain, a mustard seed size, and of course never without wisdom. Some giants we were never meant to face, but we do from time to time create them. But there’s nothing to big for God to help us conquer. (Jeremiah 32:27) Faith can move mountains.
“It’s not by might or by power, but by the spirit of the Living God.” – Zechariah 4:6
