    Pebbles

“And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh.” Ezekiel 36:26 One of my favorite pastimes as a kid was to go to the beach and skim rocks on the water. On a recent trip to a place called Hopewell Rocks in NB Canada, I was reminded of some very important principles of life; a principle of the heart. Hopewell Rocks is a beautiful place that attracts many tourists, as you get to walk on the ocean floor after the tide has gone out,…

    It won’t rain always….

Or in our case with such high heat and temperatures, it’s all anyone wishes for is rain.  With fire risks and heat stroke always on the prowl, a little rain is just the cure for a time of drought.  The song writer who wrote the song, “It won’t rain always,” was speaking to the fact that sometimes when it rains it pours, but it won’t rain always.  Weeping may endure for a night but joy always comes in the morning.  (Psalm 30:5) Today, I am speaking on another note.  That although sometimes we have all the rain we need, sometimes we go through periods of drought.  Periods where we…

A Man With a Measuring Line

“And I myself will be a wall of fire around it,’ declares the Lord, ‘and I will be its glory within.” – Zechariah 2:5 It is said that the ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy. – Dr Martin Luther King Jr If you wait until the perfect circumstances come along in life to do anything great, you will be waiting forever and a day, and you will never get anything done. (Ecclesiastes 11:4) I’ve learned time and time again not to trust in my circumstances, but to trust in God.…

    What is your worst fear?

“For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” – 2 Timothy 1:7 The phrase, “Do Not Fear,” is written in the bible 365 times.  Does that mean God is telling us we can live fearlessly every day of the year? When asked what my worst fear is, my quick answer is usually a description of an eight legged creature with black fur and beady eyes.   The spider!  But in truth my heart fears many other things.  It’s natural to have weaknesses and fear certain things. Fear can be a natural healthy thing where our bodies warn us of danger, and then there’s the other…

    Consider the Lilies

“You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb.” – Psalm 139:13 Closely examine a rose, and you will see how all the delicate sweet smelling petals, are so intricately layered and designed.   When a newly bloomed flower opens, it is the most beautiful.  All the colors, twists and turns, curves and imperfect parts.  When the Rose is crushed apart it gives off the most potent fragrance, which is why the rose is the most common flower used in potpourri. “A rose trampled on the ground,” is used to describe Jesus dying on the cross.  “He thought of me above all,”…

He Loves Me, He Loves Me Not

The picture of the little girl, sitting in a field picking daisies apart singing, “He loves me, He loves me not.”  I used to enjoy playing this game with my friends.  We all had our childhood crushes, or at least the fantasy of what our future boyfriend or husband might be like.  It was a harsh reality down the road to realize, that sometimes the answer would be, “He loves me not.”  The dating world can be a horrible place.  In the movies, you see the man reject the woman, and then either the woman holds her head high and moves on, or you get the hopeless romantic who becomes love…

    The Road To Damascus

“But Saul increased all the more in strength, and confounded the Jews who dwelt in Damascus, proving that this Jesus is the Christ.” – Acts 9:22 What do you want to be when you grow up?  We come across many points in life where we ask the questions.  Who am I? What do I want to be? Where I want to go?   There is nothing wrong with having dreams and setting goals for yourself; however, the problem comes when it becomes all about, “I.” We are all put on this earth with gifts and a purpose in using them.  Not just for ourselves but for others, and to glorify our…

    Well Laid Plans

“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” – Jeremiah 29:11 As human beings we are planners for the most part. We like to plan what we are going to eat, what we will be when we grow up, who we will marry, where we will live. I’m sure God had a plan before he set the earth in motion.  Sometimes plans are successful and sometimes they fail; even the best laid plans. A builder would never begin to build a house without a blueprint, and first counting the…
