Keep calm

“All this I have told you so that you will not fall away.  They will put you out of the synagogue; in fact, the time is coming when anyone who kills you will think they are offering a service to God.  They will do such things (Sin) because they have not known the Father or me.” John 16:1-3

“I told you so.”

No one likes the phrase, “I told you so.” The bible is full of prophecies that pertain to today. I opened my bible and immediately came to John 16. It was Jesus talking about the coming rejection. Meaning, a world that has completely turned away from God. It is all too often I turn on the TV and I see new stories about shootings and killings, and it breaks my heart.

This is not the world God intended. This is a world that we were born into, a world tainted by Sin. We too often forget that Jesus has overcome most of what we face today. There are beautiful aspects of the world that are left remaining for us to enjoy, but all too often we lose our Joy when circumstances take over.  People often ask, why would God let all this bad happen? The answer is simple. God doesn’t let it happen, he gives us free will.

I often see the quote, “If I find in myself a desire which no experience in this world can satisfy, the most probably explanation is that I was made for another world. – C.S. Lewis.

I know in my heart this world Is just a stopping point on my journey to God’s promised land. We do not live forever; therefore, this world is not forever.

“If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you.” John 15:19

We do not belong to this world. The world is temporary, and all that is in it. If you are of the world, you will die with the world. If you are in Jesus, you will live forever with Him even after the world fails us.

A world full of Sin

The world is full of hate, murder, jealousy, strife, and war. All these things are the reason so much of us live in fear and hurt every day. This is not a natural condition for the human spirit. This is the cause of so much anxiety and mental health issues we face every day. But thankfully, we have a God that can give us hope and healing regardless of the circumstances we find ourselves in.  He came to the earth so that we might have Joy, we simply need to ask and allow Him into our hearts and our situations so that He can change our lives.

I was having a conversation with someone about the condition of sin in the world, and the comment I got was, “we are born this way, so we have to accept it.” God didn’t intend for cancer, sorrow, addiction, aids, famine, poverty, murder, war, plagues etc. Babies that are born without hearts, or are born with cancer …. The ground was cursed after Adam and Eve disobeyed God. Sometimes when I’m gardening I think, “I bet when God created the garden of Eden there weren’t any weeds.” Weeds have no purpose except to choke and destroy Gods beautiful creation. Tobacco and Marijuana are harmful to our bodies yet in our culture it is becoming legal and considered a “natural” thing. It is not natural it is a form of Sin. It might feel good for a moment, but the long-term effects are deadly.

John 3:16

Jesus came into the world and died on the cross not only for us to be saved, but for our Joy to be full, and for us to help others find that same joy. We now know what sin is, so we can either choose the world, or choose Jesus. By believing in Him we can obtain everlasting life, all we have to do is ask. Usually Jesus is the last person we turn to when we need help. Jesus also prayed for himself and others during trying times. (John 17)

“In that day you will no longer ask me anything. Very truly I tell you, my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name.  Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete.” John 16:23-24

“Very truly I tell you, you will weep and mourn while the world rejoices. You will grieve, but your grief will turn to joy.  A woman giving birth to a child has pain because her time has come; but when her baby is born she forgets the anguish because of her joy that a child is born into the world.  So with you: Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy.”  John 16:20-22

Before the fall in garden of Eden, women were not mean to experience pain with labor. But because of sin, that is what we are conditioned to. Even so, Jesus knew we were going to experience pain. He knew it well when He spent time on this earth; taking on all of the pain and sorrow we would ever feel on the cross. He promises that our sorrow is only temporary, and that if we let Him, he can turn our sorrow into Joy. Much like that of a beautiful baby coming into the world.

“I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” John 16:33 Bible Gateway
